A sequence of composition
In this exercise, I had to find a situation that involved people, and record a subject. I chose my sister's graduation as the event. I took photos of the preparations for the graduation, when graduands were getting their robes, although it was difficult to frame the photos well with all the people there. Photos 1 and 2 show that moment.
During the ceremony, it was difficult to take good photos of the procession, or of the stage, as I was quite a way away from it. Although it’s not very good quality because of being so far away, I like the colourful row of staff on the stage (image 7), though. The most emblematic element of the day, of course, was the gowns, so I concentrated on taking several photos of the backs of the graduands, as I liked the bright colours against the black gowns.
Photo 11 shows my sister in her gown against the “official” class of 2012 background, and 12 shows her with her Doctoral certificate and her
supervisor. Although these are both “family snapshots”, I like this photo because it captures a very important moment in the day, and they are both genuinely pleased.
This was a very hard exercise, and it made me realise how difficult it is to capture a sequence that involves people, especially when they are very take by the occasion they are celebrating.
