Rythms and patterns
I like the patterns in these images of the beach. I heightened the contrast in the one on the left and made the colour more subdued in the one on the right to see what effect this had on the pattern. Although quite pleasant, the images as they are are not sufficiently interesting for my liking.

The clocks on the stall in this flea market in Italy are in ordered rows, and they are all similar in shape and colour. Moreover, the fact that they all indicate the same time gives the image even more regularity. However, I still think the image has enough interest, as they are all slightly different.
The keys - which decorate a door in Funchal's old town - present a quirky enough subject to attract the viewer's attention. There is some variation in pattern and orientation, but the interest for the viewer is more in trying to figure out what they are, rather than a purely visual one. |
The photo of the flamenco dancer magnets in a kiosk in las Ramblas, in Barcelona, works well because, even if the placing is fairly regular, the dancers are in different colours and poses, and this helps maintain the interest.
I deeply dislike the commercialisation of the Spanish toursit experience based around flamenco, and I hope some of that feeling is conveyed in the other image, where the rather skeptical face of the tourist helps put the flamenco magnets in context. |
