Notes from the introduction of The Art of Photography
Some points from the introduction that made me think:
Things to do:
- The importance of the eye and the mind in photography: the skills of seeing and the imagination.
- The importance of planning potential photographs - training yourself to "see and think quickly" (p.13)
- It's useful to start collecting objects that you find useful (think of textures, shapes and colours), and to look for backgrounds (paper, card, material, wood...), and for places that might make good settings.
Things to do:
- Learning from other photographers: online, exhibitions, museums...
- Learning to use the camera (read the manual again!) - in Init 1, however, it says that getting to know your camera is a process that has no end :-) (p.38)
- Noting, filing and indexing (p.22): I started working on a notepad, printing and sticking photographs and writing comments and ideas, but will also now use this online log.
- Store and organise my photos, and back this up onto my external drive.
