Exercise: Focus with a set aperture
In this exercise (Photography 1, p. 29), I had to find a scene with depth, and take two or three pictures from the same place, but each focused on something at a different distance. My first attempt was with dictionaries in the library. Click on the photos to view a larger image.
The element is focus here is the title of the book, The Oxford English dictionary, in vol XVI. The volume closer to the views, and the ones at the back are out of focus. I like the very muted colours in these images.

Volume XIV is the one in focus here. I like the way the closest volume is really out of focus.

Volume XIV is the one in focus here too. Only three volumes are in full frame, with the nearest and the furthest disappearing off the edges of the photo. The closest two are out-of focus, and I don't think this works as well.
