Horizontal and vertical lines
Stowe
The photos of the road and the paths have strong vertical lines. Although a vertical frame can emphasise the vertical lines, the first image works better with a hirozontal frame, as this allows for more of the trees to be visible, and these add interest.
The photo below is made up of two horizontal lines formed by the barbed wire. The sharp spikes made by the ice contrast with the more organic forms of the frozen vegetation in the background, which have been blurred. The bottom two images have strong vertical lines, but I was also experimenting with the effect of the shaddows. Although in the photo of the temple they provide interesting diagonal lines that progressively align with the horizon, the ones in the phtoto of the path with the trees they are not defined enough. The line of thre trees, though, adds an interesting diagonal line to the composition. |
